Best Humidifier Reviews – Top 10 Hottest List for Dec. 2019

Shares

Low level of humidity during cold weather is what Carbon Monoxide is to fire. They just make things worse. The lack of enough moisture in the air can lead to some serious health issues such as cold, breathing problem, sore throat, nose bleeding, irritation in the sinus passage, dry skin and general discomfort.

The humidity level in the indoor air should ideally be in the range of 25-50%. While evaporative humidifiers are the most common and inexpensive type of humidifiers to invest in, the latest technology also allows you to add a soothing mist in the air using warm and cold-mist humidifiers.

Now, you must be wondering whether there are any side effects to it. Well, some humidifiers are high-maintenance, especially cool-mist humidifiers. However, on the plus side, they are the safest type of humidifiers to use around children. Also, some machines create a grunting noise while operating, some have an annoyingly small water reservoir.

As a result of this, you will have to fill the reservoir time and again to keep it going. As you can already guess by now, choosing the best humidifier for your specific need can be a tedious affair. So, to ease down the process, we have carefully selected 10 products that have effectively lived up to our standards (which are pretty high, by the way).

Best Humidifier Comparison:

10 Best Humidifier for 2019

Best humidifier over dozens of competitive models from different brands listed below:

1. Pure Enrichment MistAire Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier - (Highly Rated, Well-Priced Product - Best of the Best)

This pear-shaped ultrasonic cool mist humidifier from Pure Enrichment has aced our list of the best humidifiers for all the right reasons. It helps you enjoy a peaceful sleep under a warm blanket on a chilly night. The reservoir has a capacity of 1.5L which is just about enough for medium-sized bedrooms and office cabins. If you have a prior, unfortunate experience with a humidifier, you must be aware of the noise it makes while running. This means absolute hell for light sleepers.

What also makes it the number 1 product on this list is its ability to work for straight up 16 hours while maintaining pin-drop silence, thanks to the slow-spinning nozzle. Therefore, it is the safest humidifier to install in a baby’s room. It won’t wake your munchkin up. You don’t have to worry about keeping the machine on while the water level is low. The device is smart enough to sense it and shut off on its own until the tank is refilled. It also has a beautiful nightlight function which both insomniac adults and children are going to find very relaxing. There’s more. You can also change the direction and speed of releasing the vapor as you please.

Moreover, there’s no filter which would require frequent replacement. To maintain optimal functioning, clean the reservoir regularly. In case you notice mold or mildew build-up, you can use bleach if required. However, unless the problem is too grave, use a combination of crushed ice and vinegar to scrub the mold off the surface. There’s even a brush included in the package for cleaning the gunk.

What we liked

  • Silent operation, ideal for light sleepers.
  • Auto shut-off.
  • Nightlight function.
  • High and low-speed setting of the mist.

What we didn't like

Not suitable for large rooms.

MistAire might be a next to flawless but the second product on our list is not far behind as well. TaoTronics has been in the business since 2008 and today, it serves over millions of customers around the globe. But it’s not its sheer popularity that got us into picking this device. The 360-degree nozzles can direct the cool mist in different directions, making it one of the best in class humidifiers for a very reasonable price.

The water tank comes with a capacity of 2 liters, earning it a working time of up to 24 hours. This means you can enjoy an entire day of soothing, misty indoor air without having to refill the tank. The operation is virtually noiseless, making it a strong-suit for using in children’s rooms and offices. To help you keep tabs on the performance status, the device has LED indicators. The red light indicates the low level of water.

Another major highlight of this product is its one-touch control. There’s just one button to press to activate sleeping mode, switch on and off the machine. However, the same feature can be confusing for some as well. Moving on, although the product itself doesn’t come with any clear instruction on how to clean it, we figured out a simple method. Just use dilute vinegar to purify the water and mop the tank surface with a brush every week to prevent mold build-up.

What we liked

  • Zero Disturb Mode.
  • 360-degree nozzles to swivel the mist in every possible direction.
  • Silent operation.
  • Fuss-free maintenance.
  • 24 hours of run time.

What we didn't like

  • Lack of different buttons or dials for different functions.

The AIRCARE AIRCARE EP9 800 deserves the third spot on our list because of its efficiency, chore-free maintenance and its ability to gel with the decor of any house. It is a suitable choice for living rooms, office and studious spanning over 2400 sq.ft. However, we tested in an area over 2800 sq.ft as well and did not notice any major drop in the overall efficiency.

The manufacturer even allows you to change the tiles if you want the humidifier to match the furniture in your room. The bottom area of the humidifier is where the reservoir is located. It looks sort of like a bucket. So unless you are too inattentive, you can’t overfill it. Even if you spill a few drops, wipe it up, big deal! In fact, there’s a clear fill line in it to help you figure out how much water to add. There are 9-speed settings which felt a bit of an overkill. Above setting 4-5, the fan starts making gurgling noise which is undesirable.

Moreover, you won’t probably need more than 3-5 settings to keep the indoor humidity at the optimal level. It comes with an in-built digital humidistat. We have noticed that the hygrometer shows the humidity level at least 10% below the actual level.

Therefore, we would highly recommend purchasing a separate hygrometer for best results. Coming to the filter, it can last for as much as 6 months if you use disinfectant in the water. Last but not the least, you don’t have to constantly check for the water or humidity level as the device will shut down on its own when the desired humidity is reached or when the water level is low.

What we liked

  • Can humidify rooms up to 2400-2800 square feet.
  • Auto shut-off feature.
  • Easy to maintain.
  • Doubles up as a piece of furniture.

What we didn't like

  • Noisy at high-speed settings.

The product occupying #4 spot on our ultimate list of the best humidifiers is not a run-of-the-mill humidifier that does some average humidifying. It is a hybrid ultrasonic humidifier that lets you switch between cool mist and warm mist, depending on your requirement. That way, you can reap the benefits of both the mellow cool mist and the soothing warm mist which include healing of dry skin, reduced irritation in the nasal passage, reduced the heating bill, protection of wood furnishing and general comfort.

The capacity of the water tank is 6L which makes the unit ideal for large bedrooms and commercial buildings. You don’t have to tweak your schedule according to the quirks of your humidifier as the device can run for an entire day without a refill. Bringing the indoor humidity to a level that ensures optimal health for our family is the main reason for buying a humidifier. To help you do so, the unit has an LED display, providing the accurate reading of the humidity level. If you want the machine to take care of the humidity level settings, choose the Auto Mode.

Alternatively, if you wish to take charge of it, you have that option too. There is even a 12-hour timer that automatically shuts off the unit when the desired humidity level is achieved or when the tank requires a refill. All these features are accessible via smooth push buttons on the machine and also via a remote control. No matter how long the humidifier has been running, the fan will never create a noise above 36 decibel which is inaudible to human ears.

What we liked

  • Produces both cool and warm mist.
  • Precise manual humidity control and Auto Mode.
  • Remote control function.
  • Large tank.
  • 24-36 hours of working time.

What we didn't like

  • The LED display might not always provide an accurate reading of the ambient humidity level.

URPOWER humidifiers come with a stylish black and silver tone finish that adds to the décor of any room. With a tank capacity of 5 liters, the unit can run for straight up 14-17 hours without needing a refill. The mist output can be precisely controlled to soothe the air by long pressing the power button. At night, you can opt for the sleeping mode which will let you snooze through the entire night peacefully by turning off the LED indicators and quieting down the fan.

We would recommend using distilled water in the tank instead of tap water. It not only stunts the growth of mold and mildew but also, unlike tap water, doesn’t pose the risk of lime scale and mineral build-up. Using tap water instead can clog the device eventually and end up diffusing white dust instead of a clean vapor.

The equipment has a one-touch control option which is both a benefit and a demerit, depending on the user. If you struggle to remember which button is assigned to what, the one power button is a plus point for you. The unit also employs an auto shut-off feature which is activated when the tank runs out of the water. This reduces the risk of overheating and short circuit.

What we liked

  • 5-liter tank capacity.
  • Leak-free design.
  • Mist control with the help of the power button.
  • No filter, therefore, no filter replacement required.
  • 14-17 hours of run time.

What we didn't like

  • Not suitable for large rooms.

Stiffy sinus passage, respiratory ailments, nose congestion, dry skin, chapped lips are the very common side effects of low humidity in cold weather. The TaoTronics Cool Mist Humidifier lets you produce cool, mellow mist to suit your room size and personal comfort. Well, that’s what every other humidifier claims to do. So, what extraordinary does it do to deserve #5 spot on our list? It uses a reusable filter instead of a replaceable one.

You just have to thoroughly rinse the filter with dilute vinegar once or twice a month and it will be good to go. It also employs an auto-shut off function when the unit runs out of the water. In fact, to keep you aware of the low water level, it even has an icon placed right on the display. When you switch to the sleep mode, all LED lights will dim except the green light and the unit will go into a complete silent mode.

This makes it a perfect humidifier to set up in a baby’s room or in a music studio. The reservoir can hold 4 liters of water which is enough to last you for a whole day or two, depending on the severity of usage. Refilling the tank is a breeze. From what we have observed, the device works best on medium-mist settings, keeping the environmental humidity range within 40-50%. At this price-point, a lightweight humidifier like this can yield enough moisture to cover medium-size rooms.

What we liked

  • Suitable for medium-size rooms.
  • Runs for 24-36 hours without a refill.
  • Reusable filter.
  • Noise-free operation.
  • Lightweight.
What we didn't like
  • If you don’t use distilled water, the unit tends to leave a white dust residue on wood furnishings.

The deep grove base design of this ultrasonic cool mist humidifier is one of the key features of its key features. It prevents leakage which is a very common drawback of average humidifiers. The unit has come with any built-in filter which means no additional cost of replacing filter time to time. You just have to scrape off the gunk on the base with a brush and use household vinegar to purify the water twice or thrice a month. However, to ensure optimal functioning, you better clean the unit within 7 days’ gap.

The 3.5 L capacity of the reservoir is sufficient for medium rooms and will last for two to three days, solely depending on the mist speed setting. Swiveling the 360-degree rotatable nozzle, you can channel the relaxing vapor at any direction of the room for optimal effect. What makes this unit even more special is the essential oil container. By adding fragrant essential oils in the compartment, you can fill your room with the scented vapor. Another feature you will appreciate a lot is the nightlight function.

The light is neither too bright nor too dim. What’s more, you can even change the color of the light to suit your fancy. However, you can turn off the blue light when the machine is on. This might pose a wee problem for individuals who prefer to sleep in total darkness. A minor glitch but in no way, a deal breaker. Moving on, the manufacturer recommends using distilled water only in order to prevent mineral deposit.

What we liked

  • Can run for 36 hours without refill at low setting.
  • Chore-free maintenance.
  • Leak-proof design.
  • 360-degree rotation.
  • Quiet operation.

What we didn't like

  • The blue light cannot be manually turned off.

In metro cities, the amount of pollutants in the air triggers various health issues, including severe respiratory ailments. The next product in this segment uses a unique and powerful antimicrobial filter that effectively eliminates 99% harmful bacteria, mold, mildew, and viruses from the air. It also incorporates a high-tech UV technology to ensure the diffused mist is absolutely fresh and bacteria-free. We believe this is a great humidifier to use if you have a wood-burning fireplace in your house as it filters the emitted ash.

User-friendliness is another major plus of this product. It is one of those rare humidifiers that are completely dishwasher safe. Nonetheless, we would suggest you stick to manual cleaning. It is practically zero hassle as all you need is a brush and vinegar to clean the tank. If you are going to use the machine daily, frequent cleaning is advisable to keep the unit in optimal condition. It also extends the longevity of the filter by up to 2-3 months.

Like all the previous products, this one doesn’t have an auto shut-off feature. You will have to constantly keep tabs on the water level to keep the mist flow going and prevent short circuit. However, for 500 sq.ft rooms, the 2.3 L tank can hold enough water to last for a whole day. So, you don’t really have to worry about the reservoir running out of the water all the time.

What we liked

  • Affordable.
  • The UV filter adds an added layer of protection against pathogenic bacteria and viruses.
  • The filter is easy to clean.
  • Dishwasher safe.

What we didn't like

  • No built-in hygrometer.
  • No auto shut-off feature.

At #9, we have an affordable and low-maintenance warm mist humidifier that is ideal for houses which have children and elderly prone to respiratory illness, dust allergy, nose bleeding and the common cold. It releases a soothing, warm vapor, just enough to fill medium-size bedrooms and living rooms. You need to use warm water (not boiling) to fill the tank.

The humidifier, in turn, boils the water up to 200 degrees, terminating all the bacteria and pollutants that might reside in the water. The only drawback of warm mist humidifiers is that they require periodic cleaning. Otherwise, it will lead to mineral accumulation in the tank, affecting the performance of the device. On the brighter side, it doesn’t require any filter. Regular cleaning is the only way to prevent calcium and mildew build-up in the tank and around the heater.

One of the best things we noticed while testing this product is that it doesn’t leave water droplets on furniture after running for an entire day. Also, you can add inhalants like Vicks Vaposteam in the medicinal cup provided with the machine whenever you are bugged by nose congestion or flu. Unlike the Honeywell, it has the very useful auto shut-off feature to eliminate overheating hazard.

What we liked

  • No filter.
  • Medicinal cup.
  • An adjustable knob lets you control the mist output.
  • Releases 95% bacteria-free steam.
  • Auto shut-off.

What we didn't like

  • Requires frequent cleaning.

This humidifier from the house of Everlasting Comfort might be at the bottom of our list. But that doesn’t make it any less than the other products we have reviewed so far. Best suited for large rooms, this ultrasonic humidifier rated for 6L reduces the hazard of airborne diseases by bumping up the moisture level in the indoor environment. The crème de la crème of this product is its oil diffusing chamber.

You can fill up your room with soothing, fragrant, allergen-free steam by adding your choice of essential oils in the chamber. It is not a treat for our olfactory sense but it is also a popular remedy for sore throat and cold. The humidifier is capable of maintaining 43%-45% humidity in medium to large-size bedrooms, living room, and offices. The mist output is 270 ml per hour. You can adjust the mist setting by simply using the built-in dial. Unless used at the highest settings, the tank can accommodate enough water to last for up to 36 hours.

The nozzle spins silently. Therefore, you and your kids won’t have to compromise with your sleep while the machine is running. Moreover, the nozzles can be rotated to 360 degrees, allowing you to direct the mist in every nook and cranny of the room. Adding icing to the cake, it facilitates a filter-free operation. You just need to clean the unit once a week to safeguard it against mineral accumulation.

What we liked

  • 6L reservoir.
  • Essential oil diffuser chamber.
  • Great mist output.
  • Filter-free operation.

What we didn't like

  • Heavy.

Final Verdict

Hopefully, by now, you have developed somewhat a decent idea of what kind of humidifiers will work the best for your house or office. Well, reading the reviews is not the ultimate way of picking the right product. You will have to consider a few other factors before you decide to buy a humidifier.

For instance, if someone in your house has asthma or dust-mite allergy, you might want to consult a doctor before buying the machine. Increased levels of humidity, to be specific, higher than 60%, can make you sweat-machine.

To keep the humidity level in check, it is best to invest in a device that comes with a built-in hygrometer. Or, you can buy a separate hygrometer or humidistat as well. We know what a nightmare cleaning certain humidifiers can be. But we strongly suggest cleaning it every day to prevent the growth of mold. Use hydrogen peroxide to purify the reservoir.

We would also like to remind you that these equipment work best in well-insulated houses. Last but not the least, take your time to compare and contrast multiple products side by side, minutely, before jumping to any conclusion. A humidifier that doesn’t pollute the air and isn’t super difficult to maintain may cost you a few extra bucks. But the investment is most likely to pay off in the long run. In this article, we have covered everything- from the most basic evaporative humidifiers to the most upscale ultrasonic humidifiers.

After hours of research and rigorous testing, we have come to the conclusion that there’s no such thing as the best humidifier. What makes one product the best is its ability to cater to your individual needs. The size of your house, insulation, temperature etc. are a few factors that majorly impact the performance of a machine. Take your time to do your research and you shall be rewarded with a cozy and comfy indoor environment when the outside temperature hits low.

MistAire Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier works well generally speaking, except that it makes some sound when loading water into the emitting area. This makes it less suitable for people who would like a really quite humidifier. I like all the other aspects of it.
